“Ghost Hosts” Rita Dress
This is a dress I made last Halloween, but never really felt strongly about. I think the problem was I had trouble styling it last year— the colors in it are a very particular purple and a very particular green, and nothing I paired it with felt “right”.
I pulled it back out recently, and what a difference a year makes! I have so many more fun pretties to choose from now, and was able to incorporate more green and purple into my bangle stacks and hair flowers, and I even had a haunted house necklace to wear with the dress. I still maintain that picking out accessories and styling my makes is my favorite part of sewing— despite having nothing to do with actually sewing!
The pattern I used for this dress is the Rita Blouse from Charm Patterns. I ended the bodice at the natural waist and added a gathered skirt made from rectangular panels of fabric. This skirt is a bit less full than what I typically aim for, but I still like it. If anything, it probably makes this dress a bit less fancy and a bit more wearable.
