Miss Kitsch Witch
I bought this fabric online from JoAnn last Halloween, and when I received it, it wasn’t exactly what I had pictured— the metallic gold is just a subtle accent, with most of the gold-tone in the print simply printed color. I also wasn’t crazy about the shading on some of the images— it looked a bit more “quilty” than “kitschy”, and I wasn’t feeling inspired by it.
Well, when Charm Patterns released the Waterfall Dress, I realized I had the perfect fabric for a wearable muslin! I wouldn’t be broken-hearted if my first go didn’t turn out perfect, and I thought the waterfall back would be a good stand-in for a witch’s cape! Of course, that meant I needed to make myself a witch-hat fascinator as well (I winged that with a heavy felt). The Waterfall Dress came together easily, even though some of the techniques were new to me (like the interior strap to snug up the waist while keeping the back loose and flowing). I am dying to make it up again in a more appropriate, flowier fabric.
I’m actually really pleased with the way this turned out— of course, there are things I’ll change the next time I make this, but for a wearable muslin, this is something I really like! I feel like I should be making an appearance on “Bewitched” in this outfit! Now, to find myself a broom to fly in on…
