Ornaments A-Plenty!

You’ve already seen a couple of versions of Butterick B6413, and you should probably strap in to see many more to come— including this one— because it’s a favorite pattern of mine.

The raglan sleeve seam line and the seam under the bust provide a way to really customize the fit of the bust on this dress, which is part of why it’s one of my favorite patterns to sew up. I’m really pleased with the fit, and it’s a style that lends itself to a lot of different fabrics.

I always make my B6413s with the keyhole filled in under the bust. I made my first muslin with the keyhole, and just didn’t get enough bust support. I also made this version with a full gathered skirt, as opposed to the pencil skirt provided with the pattern.

This was one of my makes from last Christmas. In fact, it was the dress I wore Christmas Day 2021. Luckily, I still love it, and was excited to pull it back out again this year!

The fabric photographs differently depending on the light, but in person it’s a teal green shade. I love the vintage ornaments on it! It feels festive and playful without reading too juvenile, which can be a hard balance to achieve when it comes to holiday prints.

While B6413 is sadly out of print, you can still find it available on eBay and Etsy. The pattern designer, Gertie (of Charm Patterns) has teased bringing some of the old Butterick line back to her Patreon with updated sizing, so this may be something to watch for as we move into 2023 if you’re as much of a fan of her old Butterick patterns as I am!
