Valentines Day Gingham Separates: Part 2
I had a bunch of this heart-print gingham on my hands, and a plan to create a few different separates with them. What I didn’t have was a coordinating fabric to line my Dorothy bolero in.
It turns out the red in the gingham print was really hard to find a color match for. There was no match available in the Kona cotton line, nor was there a match in any of my local JoAnn’s solids. I wound up finding a pin dot print at JoAnn’s that coordinated nicely, and as soon as I’d brought a second print into the mix, my plans expanded.
I bought a bit extra of the red pin dot and in addition to using it in my reversible bolero, I made another Rita Blouse (this one without the cinched neckline modification I used on the gingham version).
While the gingham blouse and gingham skirt wind up looking like a dress, the skirt when worn with this red Rita blouse definitely looks like a skirt and blouse. I like having this option! It’s a bit more relaxed, and these two understated prints compliment one another nicely.
I didn’t photograph this look with the bolero reversed to the pin dot side, as I thought it looked a bit unbalanced to have the gingham only at the bottom and two pieces with the pin dots up top, but it’s still nice to have the option to wear the bolero either way!
