Valentines Day Gingham Separates: Part 3

Here we are, finally to the third and final part of my write-up on these separates! If you’re tired of reading about them, imagine how tired I was of sewing them!

In all seriousness, even though I started craving a bit more variety in my sewing, it was really nice to have this little capsule wardrobe all complete with so many options to mix and match!

This last piece is based on the Liz Dress from Charm Patterns. I used the Rita Blouse’s lower pieces as a guide for the bottom portion in order to extend the bodice past the waist in order to make this into a blouse, and then I cut off the shelf bust/ strap piece at the top of the bodice neckline edge and added simple straps.

I’ve always struggled with the Liz Dress straps— I have narrow sloping shoulders, and this tip-of-the-shoulder design was a fit challenge, not to mention I feel like it isn’t the most flattering strap position/ style for my frame.

I saw an image of a blouse being sold by Trashy Diva and realized I could probably hack something similar using the Liz, and that was the inspiration for this top.

I don’t hate the way this turned out, but I don’t love it, either. I’ll probably give this strap idea another shot in dress form come summer, but it’s not an instant favorite the way some patterns are. Still, I’m glad I tried something new, and it’s nice to know that this is another option using a pattern I’ve already gone through the fitting process with!
