Cashmerette’s Rockwell Dress & Caroll Shrug
I am so excited to finally be able to share these images with everyone! Earlier in fall, Cashmerette reached out to me about being one of their collaborators and sewing up some of their new styles for Cashmerette Club, the Rockwell dress and Caroll shrug. I was really excited to get the opportunity to work with these vintage-inspired patterns and put my own twist on them.
These patterns were inspired by the work of 20th century American designer Claire McCardell, and the patterns were designed in collaboration with the very talented Julie Eilber.
It’s been so exciting seeing everyone’s lovely versions of these patterns after working on them in a bit of a vacuum! I hope you folks like them— they were quick makes that came together easily and have very minimal fitting. There were some new-to-me construction techniques, so it was exciting to try them out!
I chose to make mine from a stretch velvet in an olive color— my first time working with stretch velvet, believe it or not! The dress pattern is designed for a lighter-weight fabric, but I really loved the idea of having a lush velvet piece to take with me into the holiday season.
Because I made the Caroll shrug in the same fabric, I’m able to pair it with the dress for a sleeved effect. The pair worn together really look seamless, it’s hard to tell they’re two separate garments if you’re not looking closely.
Are you a member of Cashmerette Club? Will you be making these patterns?
