Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone who celebrates had a happy Thanksgiving yesterday! Neither my husband and I nor my in-laws particularly enjoy cooking a traditional holiday spread, so we decided to go out for our celebratory meal. To no one’s surprise, I decided this was a good excuse to make a new dress for the occasion!

I went back to my tried and true Butterick B6413 with a full skirt, raised neckline, longer sleeve, and filled in keyhole. The fabric is a stretch velvet (calling this velvet is generous— there isn’t really any pile, it’s just fuzzy) which I lined with a woven cotton in the bodice to maintain the pattern’s structure and appearance.

This fabric was a pain to work with, so my quick impulse-make took about twice as long as I hoped it would, but it’s fun having another version of this dress in a very different fabric in my wardrobe!

It felt so unnatural wearing this without a petticoat, but stretch velvet and petticoats don’t mix well. That being said, it’s nice to have something that reads a bit more modern in my closet of me-made dresses!
