Christmas Kittens
So, nobody’s surprised that I made two Christmas dresses with cats on them.
Are you surprised that I wound up making them using the same pattern?
I know, not very original, but I have been really enamored with Simplicity S9164 and I just really wanted to use it with this fabric.
Speaking of the fabric, it’s a Spoonflower print made available in Charm Patterns’ shop, and the moment I saw it I knew I had to have it. I love Christmas, I love border prints, and I love cats. I was pleasantly surprised when the fabric arrived and I saw the scale of the print— for some reason I pictured it being very slightly smaller— and the fact that it was a wonderfully warm-toned red.
I wound up deciding to use the smaller border print on the button edge of the bodice, and I used white with yellow rick-rack trim for the cuffs and collar.
I was so pleased with this dress, it’s definitely one of my favorite makes of the year. I wore it to Disneyland (I’ll share those pictures eventually!) and had SO many parents point out my dress to their children. I’ve worn tons of me-made vintage-inspired dresses to Disneyland, but have never had that experience before. I think because the print is so large and playful, it read really well in the crowds there.
