Fuchsia Plaid Dress

After completing all of those gingham separates for Valentine’s Day, I was craving a quick and easy palette cleanser! I’d been wanting to use this fabric for a tried-and-true favorite pattern of mine, B6413, for awhile, and this seemed like the perfect time for that project!

I’ve made B6413 with these same modifications (full gathered skirt, raised neckline, filled in keyhole) so many times that I can throw it together pretty quickly now, and it’s a go-to style for me when I have a fabric I want to show off, but that doesn’t have a large print that needs to be kept together with minimal seams.

It seemed like this pattern would be well-suited to this fuchsia and purple plaid, and would add some more interest to the simple plaid pattern.

I’m really happy with the way this dress came out! I can see it being a staple in my wardrobe, the kind of dress that can be dressed up with heels and a cardigan, or dressed down with a sandal and more minimal accessories. I think the way I’ve styled it here is somewhere in between the two extremes.

This fuchsia belt is a favorite of mine that I haven’t worn for awhile, and I think I lost juuuuust enough weight that now the “tail” is long enough that it looks a little floppy. I wish it had another loop to feed the excess through, but it doesn’t, so devising one may have to go on my list of sewing to-dos!

While I was working with the fabric, it also struck me that this was my favorite color scheme as a 6 year old! This particular shade of fuchsia pink and purple were my favorite colors for a couple of years there, and I like to think that I was indulging my inner child with this make!

Do you have any patterns that you keep going back to when you want an “easy” make? I love having a variety of patterns to pull from, but some of my favorites definitely have fiddlier bits, or require a bit more attention, so it’s nice to have a couple I know I can whip up when I’m not in the mood for something more challenging!
