It’s a Marshmallow World in the Winter

I bought this fabric, designed by therewillbecute on Spoonflower, with no idea what it would become. I just knew that I was obsessed with this twee pastel take on Christmas, and I wanted to live in the same world these reindeer came from!

Luckily, the fabric didn’t have to sit in my stash for too long before I decided what to make it into!

I’d recently made a couple of similar sweetheart neckline dresses with half sleeves based on B6412, but modified to have one center piece with princess seams rather than the overlapping center pieces. I didn’t want to deal with pattern matching these stripes across princess seams, so I modified one of my favorite and best-fitting patterns, B5748, to have the same pronounced sweetheart neckline shape as B6412. I also used the sleeves from B6412.

I’m really pleased with how this came out, and I’ll definitely be using this version of B5748 again (in fact, I’ve already used it a second time— but trust, there will be a third, fourth, fifth, etc…)

The shade of turquoise mint green and pinky-peach used in this fabric were a bit hard to match accessories to, but I got lucky and found a belt on Amazon that fit the bill. I also wound up finding shoes in the perfect shade of green a bit later, and wore them with this dress at Disneyland! I’ll get around to sharing those photos eventually, too!

What do you think of pastels for Christmas? I think it’s a sweet way to break up the red and green that we see so much of this time of year. Don’t get me wrong, I love red and green— they’re two of my favorite colors!— but it’s fun to have some variety in one’s wardrobe! This dress makes me think of the song “Marshmallow World” whenever I see it!
