The Final Frontier

I’ve had the Charm Patterns Night & Day Dress pattern for awhile now, but was really intimidated by it! I’m not really sure why— I’ve made darted bodices plenty of times before. I think maybe the different neckline treatments and all of the options were just overwhelming me.

I finally resolved to make it, and pulled a solar system fabric out of my stash that I loved when I bought, and then was immediately stumped about what to make it in. It seemed like it would be a good fit with the scarf collar option, and of course I had to try out the cuff on the short sleeve to tie in the white contrast from the scarf color!

Well, my scarf looks a little wonky, but I’m really happy with how the bodice came together! I pleated four widths of my fabric to construct the skirt. I can’t believe I put off making this pattern for so long.

I’ll definitely be making this pattern again— I really want to try the square neck option as well as the yoke skirt! I picked up a bolt of summery clearance fabric that I’ve got set aside for the yoke skirt version, so hopefully that will happen sometime this spring or summer.

I’ve heard that when Gertie expanded the sizing for the Night & Day dress, she also redrafted the bodices. I’ve got the old version, but I also based the fit on my 2 dart sloper, so I can’t speak to how easy/ difficult this particular pattern was to fit. All I know is that it came together easily for me, and I’m pleased with my finished result!
